Ratio and proportion
Antecedent and consequent
\[\frac{a}{b} = \frac{\text{antecedent}}{\text{consequent}} \equiv \frac{\text{numerator}}{\text{denominator}}\]
We are dividing \(a\) into equal parts \(b\). So \(b\) is the unit that defines the scale.
The world is rational
Coordinate axes
- x-y coordinates make up a ratio, right?
- Straight line is contstant ratio or x/y = constant
- What about functions? Are they continuous ratios?
- What happens when we have 3 axes, x, y, z?
- Then we have, x/y, x/z, y/z, and also inverse of these.
